Most commercial kitchen equipment installations require permits: gas appliance permits for any gas connection work, electrical permits for new circuits or panel changes, plumbing permits for water and drain connections, and health department approval for new food service operations or major renovations. Walk-in door gaskets typically last 2-4 years and should be inspected every 6 months. Signs of failing gaskets: visible tears or cracks, frost buildup near the door frame, condensation on the door frame, noticeably warmer temperatures near the door, or the door not staying closed. A failing gasket forces the compressor to work harder, increasing energy costs and reducing equipment life.

Signs of a refrigerant leak: unit runs but doesn't reach temperature, ice buildup on evaporator coil, hissing or bubbling sounds from refrigerant lines, oily residue near connections or fittings, and higher than normal electricity consumption. Only EPA-certified technicians can legally handle refrigerant. If you suspect a leak, call a technician promptly — operating a refrigerator with low refrigerant damages the compressor.
